UCMAS Langley – Abacus & Mental Math Summer Program

1-Week Program (5 Days) – Abacus Foundation Focus

Goal: Build strong number fundamentals, focus, and confidence using UCMAS foundation concepts.

Children will learn:

✔️ Number recognition & abacus bead movement
✔️ Proper finger techniques for speed & accuracy
✔️ Basic addition using the abacus
✔️ Concentration, listening & visualization skills
✔️ Structured practice habits in a fun learning environment

Outcome:

By the end of the program, students will be able to perform basic calculations on the abacus with confidence.

2-Week Program (10 Days) – Abacus + Mental Math Progression

Goal: Progress from abacus calculation toward early mental math and visualization techniques.

Includes everything from the 1-Week Program, plus:

✔️ Speed building and accuracy improvement
✔️ Introduction to mental math & visualization techniques
✔️ Multi-step calculations using abacus + mental approach
✔️ Timed practice activities and challenge sheets
✔️ Stronger concentration, confidence & faster thinking skills

Outcome:

Children begin visualizing the abacus mentally and performing calculations faster with improved accuracy building a strong foundation for advanced mental math and future UCMAS levels.
